Medical Website Design & Build

Medical Website Design Built Around the Patient Journey

A medical website needs to do more than look professional. It should help patients understand your services, recognize who provides their care, and find the right next step.

I lead website strategy, page structure, design direction, content and SEO planning. A development team working under my direction can build the agreed site, or I can collaborate with your existing developers.

The result we work toward: a website whose pages, design and booking paths make sense to the people you want to help—with the exact deliverables agreed before the project starts.

Quick Summary

  • For doctors, surgeons, private practices and clinics launching or substantially redesigning a website.
  • I lead the strategy, structure, design direction and agreed content work.
  • A development team under my direction can build the site; working with your developers is also an option.
  • The sitemap, pages, copy, features and launch responsibilities are defined in the proposal.
  • Your clinical team reviews and approves medical information before publication.

Why Medical Website Design Starts Before the Visual Design

A visitor might arrive on a procedure page, a doctor profile or a location page rather than your homepage. They may be comparing providers, trying to understand a treatment, or deciding whether it is appropriate to contact you.

That is why I plan the page hierarchy and patient paths before focusing on how individual sections look. Visual design should make the information easier to find and understand—not cover up a confusing structure.

Example: A surgeon’s website may need distinct paths for procedures, the surgeon’s qualifications, locations and consultation requests. Putting all of that information on a single attractive homepage would not necessarily help a visitor find what they need.

When This Service Is the Right Fit

This is a design-and-build engagement for a new website or a substantial redesign. It is not the same as purchasing an audit or an SEO roadmap.

New practice website

You need a useful page structure, clear service explanations and a site your patients can navigate from the start.

Existing site redesign

Your current site needs more than a visual refresh: its navigation, content or appointment paths need rethinking.

Specialist or multi-service practice

Patients need to distinguish between doctors, services, treatments and locations without getting lost.

Not sure whether you need a rebuild? A Medical Website Structure Audit can identify whether targeted fixes would be a better first step.

What a Website Project Can Include

These are possible workstreams, not an automatic list of everything included in every quote. We agree on the pages, responsibilities and deliverables for your project.

Workstream What We Define Why It Matters
Website strategy Audiences, priority services, goals and page requirements. The build starts with an agreed purpose and scope.
Structure & navigation Sitemap, menus, page hierarchy and internal-link direction. Visitors can move between relevant pages more easily.
Page design Agreed layouts, content sections, visual direction and mobile presentation. The presentation supports the information and patient journey.
Content & SEO Page briefs, keyword-to-page mapping and/or copywriting, as agreed. Important pages answer relevant questions and have a clear purpose.
Development & launch Agreed pages and functionality, review, revisions and launch tasks. The approved plan becomes a working website.

Scope matters: Booking-platform integrations, complex forms, photography, extensive content writing, ongoing SEO, hosting and post-launch maintenance are included only when specified in the proposal.

How I Lead the Design and Build

You have a clear point of contact, a defined scope and review points before publication.

Step 1

Agree on scope

We identify the pages, features, content, responsibilities and approval process.

Step 2

Plan the site

I shape the sitemap, patient paths, page requirements and content direction.

Step 3

Design and build

The agreed pages are designed and developed with my team or your existing developers.

Step 4

Review and launch

Your team reviews the site, including medical claims and privacy matters, before final approval and launch.

What Makes This Different From a Design-Only Project?

I connect page design with information architecture, search intent, careful healthcare writing and the steps a patient takes before contacting a practice. Design and SEO are considered together, without treating a website as a promise of rankings or appointments.

The guiding principle

A medical website should help people find relevant information, understand the practice’s expertise and choose an appropriate next step. Its visual design should support those tasks.

Ownership, Pricing and Responsibilities

A complete website is custom quoted. The quote depends on the number and complexity of pages, content needs, design and development scope, integrations and whether we are replacing an existing site.

Your domain and hosting should remain in your name or your organization’s account. The project proposal should specify what is included, who supplies assets and factual information, how revisions work and whether any support continues after launch.

If you only need planning or a focused review, those can be scoped separately. The planning prices on the Services page are not prices for a completed website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers before you commission a medical website.

Do you build the website or only provide a plan?

Both are possible. I can lead a design-and-build project with a development team under my direction, or provide an agreed plan for your team to implement. The proposal makes that distinction explicit.

Can you redesign my existing website?

Yes. For a redesign, we review important existing pages and plan what to keep, revise or replace. Redirects and URL changes are considered where applicable.

Can website copy be included?

Yes, when writing is part of the agreed scope. Your team supplies practice-specific facts, and qualified clinicians review medical statements before they are published.

Do you guarantee rankings or patient bookings?

No. The project can provide a clearer site and an SEO-informed structure, but rankings and appointment results cannot be guaranteed.

Planning a New Medical Website or Redesign?

Tell me about your practice, your current website and what you want the new site to accomplish. We can define a scope that fits the work.

Clinical and privacy review

Please do not submit patient records or private health information through the contact form or email. Your qualified clinical, legal, privacy and technical teams should review medical claims, forms, tracking and applicable requirements before launch.
